2020 was a rough year. One thing that got us through it was art.
To celebrate and support the emerging artists in our home territory of Buffalo, NY, during the epic year of 2020, the LOSA created its “Emerging Artists Initiative.”
Who is a Buffalo “emerging artist?” Anyone whose bio shows us a serious commitment to the pursuit of graphic arts, with limited commercial support to date. And you have to live in Buffalo (we love you too, Niagara Falls, but this one’s for the home team).
It’s a simple program: 4 works of original art by an emerging Buffalo artist, and the artist’s bio, are displayed in our beautiful storefront windows on Grant Street, on the city’s west side. We switch the display every three months (every quarter). And because the LOSA firmly believes that artists should be paid, we pay $300.00 (three hundred) for the right to showcase this work.
To mix things up, we pick a theme each quarter.

In 2021, kicked off the LOSA Emerging Artist Series with Emeka Wajed!

Emeka is a 16 year old artist and creative and has been such for many years, expressing himself through drawing and painting as early as 3 years of age. An entrepreneur, his business is Made by Mek. Most recently his medium of choice is customizing footwear and sneakers particularly. To date, in less than a year’s time of accepting his first customization request, he’s hand-painted over 50 pairs of sneakers for a growing customer base. Emeka R. Wajed is the youngest son of Edreys and Alexa Wajed. Like his parents, artists, entrepreneurs, creatives and change-makers, Emeka has naturally followed-suit in his own endeavors with his own personal flair.
